W is for Wreath

“That’s the one!” she gasped as she pointed at a large wreath. They were shopping for their first holiday together in their new place and basically had nothing.

He looked at it. “That’s beautiful. It’s also huge. Where do you plan on fitting it? That door is larger than ours and it barely fits there.”

He realized that he was talking to himself. She had already sprinted across the store and was gazing at the wreath with something akin to adoration. It was gorgeous. But so were so many other things here. That’s why they had chosen an artisan shop for their purchases.

As he walked up, she was looking at the wreath from every angle. One of the shopkeepers walked by and smiled. “It’s really one of a kind. I expected it to sell quickly, but I think it needs the perfect home.”

“I love it,” she said.

He shook his head. “I just don’t know where we could put it, honey. We wouldn’t be able to open the door if we put it there. How would we get inside?”

She turned to him. “It’s the one I want. We’ve been looking for weeks–you know it’s the right one.” He looked at her and then the wreath. He shrugged, knowing it was coming home with them.

“I guess it could go on the fireplace,” he mused. Before the words were out of his mouth, she had thrown her arms around him, hugging tightly.

“It’s going to be a wonderful Christmas,” she whispered.
