The drive from the city that was supposed to be last night got pushed to this morning. Why did work emergencies always happen on Fridays?
He had gotten it handled, though, and they were off for their pre-Christmas break before the family craziness started.
As they drove up to the cabin, the snow was pristine. There were lights strung in the trees and it was totally silent. And private.
He pulled her out of the car and took her hand. “Let’s start with a walk. The stuff in there can wait.”
The snow crunched under their feet and a bird sang in the distance. Other than that, they felt like the only people in the world.
She stopped and fell onto her back and proceeded to make a snow angel. Laughing, he made one next to hers.
He leaned over and kissed her cold nose. “Can we just stay here forever?”
“Works for me,” she smiled.
