Charmer’s Priorities for 2020

Priorities are always a struggle for me. Personal relationship ones are easy. I tend to love spending time with and doing things for the people in my life.

When it comes to life and work and chores and all of that? Everything tends to either be a top priority or discarded until it becomes an emergency.

I love writing lists. I’ve written about that before. My daily to-do list is pretty set for me with things scheduled on the same day each week. I get most of it done and I’m pretty good at staying on track with that.

When we start talking about the more unusual things, that is when I start having problems. This time of year, after the decorations are put away and I can see what new has come into the house and all, I start going on a MUST DECLUTTER THE ENTIRE HOUSE TODAY streak. Everything seems like it is too much stuff and not organized and never going to get that way.

It started this past weekend. Snake helped me put everything from Christmas away on Saturday and we were super efficient. And instead of just being content that there was so much less clutter than there had been for the past month, my brain had to go to all of the things that need to be cleaned out. So, he poured me some wine and we watched some TV and we enjoyed the calm.

So, priorities this year? Getting work done on our backyard project. It won’t be finished, but he drew up plans for the first part. And we can get that part done before it is too hot here to work outside. We know this is a multi-year project both with time and money and each piece makes us enjoy our place so much more.

Continuing to get rid of stuff that we don’t need. We are both horrible at this. The “what if I get rid of this and need it” gene is strong with both of us. We are getting better because we see how much better we feel when we don’t have to wade through 15 pairs of jeans to find the two that actually fit. We both lost over 50 pounds in the past couple of years and are getting rid of the way too big clothes.

On the site, we are still trying to do a post a day. I’m sure that we’ll miss a few days, but we started this last year and we both love the writing and the memes and the interaction with everyone. And, we’ve learned that when we miss a day, the world does not stop spinning.

And life? To remember who is important, what is important, love lots, play lots, dance, explore, smile and laugh…

  1. “Everything seems like it is too much stuff and not organized and never going to get that way.“

I have felt a sense of overwhelming urgency with this lately. It’s not xmas stuff;though, as much as a need to rid myself of a previous chapter of my life. But I am also not doing it. I’m standing still. I feel the urgency to get rid of all the things but I think I also lack the motivation to do so.

    1. Mine isn’t really Christmas, I don’t think. Just clearing out old parts of me.

But I totally get the lack of motivation. I have to pace myself with one small thing at a time or I get overwhelmed and can’t do anything at all.

  2. I feel this sooo much right now! As much as I have moved I use the 6 month method. If I haven’t touched it in 6 months I don’t need it. It’s so hard to get the guys on board as they hoard things. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Lol

    1. Lol! We usually use a year rule although my winter coat was almost a victim of purging a few years ago and now I am so glad to have it since we head to the Pacific NW pretty regularly now.

  3. It sounds like you have big plans for the backyard! Isn’t it like when a new year starts you suddenly look at things with ‘new eyes’ and feel motivated to just get on with it?
Over here I am the one who prefer to hang on to things, and Master T is the one who easily throw things away. We have found a middle ground to that 😉

    1. Oh I’m terrible at getting rid of things. I just can’t stand clutter so once things are overflowing, I have to deal with it.

Yes, it is a big project but it will be worth it when it is done

  4. I can be a world-class procrastinator as well as hoarder. I think they go together when I come up with all sorts of excuses not to bother de-cluttering 🤦‍♀️

Congrats on the weight loss for both of you. 🌹

  5. We are like that here. “what if we toss it and then we need it again.”
I try and ask myself “Have I used it in 12 months? Seen it in 12 months? if not donate it. LOL.
Wishing you best of luck and good weather for your backyard project 🙂
