B is for Beach

So the prompt for the month is fall, tricks and treats so I started thinking about my favorite treats.

I don’t tend to crave a lot of sweets. Once in a while I like carrot cake or key lime pie or a decadent eclair, but if I don’t have them, I really don’t miss them.

I do crave salty and savory a bit more. Give me a bowl of chips and salsa and I am happy. Kettle chips. A really good bagel. Perfect fish and chips. Good Mexican food. And I’ll never turn down shrimp or lobster–I’m not a savage. LOL.

I think I definitely crave places more than food. One of my favorite things is the beach. I love sitting and watching the waves come in and go out. I love walking along the edge of the water. I always look for shells just like I did with my mom who also loved the ocean.

I remember going to Hampton Beach when I was little with my parents and brother. It was such a fun time and honestly, the only time I ever saw anyone eat a whole lobster. It was my mom and I remember how much she loved it while I, of course, played with the claws.

The first trip after we got married, Snake and I went to Los Angeles. We stayed at a Motel 6 since that was all that we could afford. But we had a wonderful time at the beach. Later, when we had a little more money, we stayed at a fabulous place in San Diego where we could see the harbor from our balcony. We spent hours just looking at the water.

This is probably one of our favorite things about going on a cruise actually. Snake and I love sitting on a deck while we watch and listen to the waves. It’s so peaceful and it is our happy place to be near the ocean.

Nothing soothes the soul like a walk on the beach.

Right now we aren’t doing that kind of traveling, but I believe that it will happen again. Not right away, but we’ll be back on the beach, playing in the waves and enjoying our bliss.

  1. The beach is such a special place to be, and whenever I can (which sadly isn’t much) I like to take a walk on the beach, and feel the cold water around my feet. Sadly my husband can’t walk on the beach, but we like to drive out to the seaside and just watch the water 🙂
    And carrot cake? YUM!
